I started looking for a soundcard
in early November 2001. By January 2002, I had found what I considered (and
still do) the best bang for the buck. I first looked into the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
EX. A great card but it did not offer recording at 24bit/96khz. I found the M-Audio
Audiophile 2496 and did not look back. Input at 24bit/96khz. Input channels are limited to two without
external A/D converters. With converters, you can record up to four channels in
one take. (I have never needed more than four tracks, but I'm not a drummer!) Midi in, midi out and S/PDIF
via breakout cable (for dat machines). A well made card that simply sounds great.
Check M out! M-Audio
